Matthias Buntrock joined GG+A in 2005 with over 15 years’ experience in the European nonprofit sector. He has served healthcare, academic, social service and charity organizations throughout his career.
In addition to his work with the firm, he is also a fundraiser for the University Hospital Essen and for the Medical Faculty of the University, Duisburg-Essen. In 2006, he was also appointed managing director of the University Medical Foundation in Essen.
Previously, Matthias was head of fundraising and alumni departments at both Georg-August University Göttingen and the University Hospital Göttingen. In this capacity, Matthias was wholly responsible for the development and implementation of strategy related to alumni relationship management, along with marketing and brand building for the University hospital.
Earlier, Matthias managed mitLeidenschaft, in Bielefeld, a foundation dedicated to securing social welfare. There, he developed fundraising strategies, with focus on major donors and legacies. Before this, Matthias was head of the fundraising department at the Ev. Johanneswerk Inc., one of the largest Protestant organizations in Europe. He also held positions consulting with charities on their marketing and sponsoring and as a social worker for various organizations, working with the homeless and unemployed.
Matthias studied Protestant theology at the Church University of Bethel and the Westphalian Wilhelm University of Münster, and social-work at the University of Applied Science of Münster and the University of Haifa, Israel. He also has an advanced degree in business administration.
