Terry College of Business
The University of Georgia Terry College of Business (Terry College) recognized investing in its young alumni would provide for a plentiful future, but was unsure of how to begin the engagement process. They sought the counsel of Grenzebach Glier and Associates (GG+A) to guide them in efforts to involve young alumni in its annual giving and future campaign initiatives.
GG+A consultants conducted a strategic planning study for Terry College. In part GG+A found the College hadn't been very effective at keeping up communication with its alumni in the years following graduation. One of GG+A's recommendations was to form alumni networks in cities where deep concentrations of Terry College graduates lived, in order to keep young alumni engaged throughout their lifetimes, and to build a pipeline for future major gifts.
Based upon GG+A's recommendations, the College formed the Terry Regional Alumni Network, which hosts speaker panels and receptions for alumni. Terry College also began to solicit current undergraduates, explored class giving programs, and started a young alumni board for individuals who graduated sometime over the past 12 years. Each member is charged with asking five other alumni to give back to the college; as a result, this young alumni board has achieved 100 percent participation in giving.
Terry College has just completed a strategic plan for the coming decade and is now in the planning stages of a campaign. Through its young alumni board and newly formed alumni networks, Terry College is educating young alumni about its priorities and needs and what a campaign would do for the College.
