Giving USA 2009 – Charitable Giving for the Year 2008
For more than 50 years, the state of American charitable giving has been chronicled in this authoritative survey by the Giving USA Foundation. Replete with data tables and trend lines, Giving USA provides a comprehensive look at who gives and where. The most recent report found that, despite the worst economic climate since the Great Depression, charitable giving exceeded $307 billion in 2008. Click here to view selected data from this report. Caring Canadians, Involved Canadians; Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating
Released in 2009, this survey of giving and volunteering remains one of the most comprehensive and useful portraits of philanthropy in Canada. Among the highlights within: 84% of the population (aged 15 and over) made a charitable donation in 2007; Canadians donated $10 billion (Canadian) in 2007, an increase of 12% in donations from the $8.9 billion reported in the 2004 survey. Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) - UK Giving 2009

Bank of America Study of High-Net-Worth Philanthropy - Issues Driving Charitable Activities among Affluent Households
Conducted for Bank of America by The Center on Philanthropy, this new study followed much of the same methodology as the initial 2006 study in order to identify key trends and to provide even deeper insights into the motivations and attitudes of wealthy donors. The Hudson Institute -  Index of Global Philanthropy 2009
Every year, the Hudson Institute’s Center for Global Prosperity publishes the Index of Global Philanthropy. This document details “the sources—and magnitude—of U.S. private international giving, and demonstrates that the most effective philanthropic bridge between industrialized countries and developing nations is built on private philanthropy, volunteerism, and public-private partnerships, not exclusively government foreign aid.” This year’s index find that despite the global recession, charitable giving to developing nations by individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations is not expected to decline significantly in 2009. Geography and Giving: The Culture of Philanthropy in New England and the Nation
Boston College’s Center on Wealth and Philanthropy has recently completed a study comparing philanthropic activity in New England with the rest of the United States. Among the findings: the wealthiest residents in Massachusetts give a larger percentage of their income to charity than comparably wealthy persons in the rest of the country. The Slate 60 - Largest American Charitable Contributions
In coordination with the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Slate Magazine compiles an annual list of the 60 largest American charitable contributions. Topping the list for 2008 is the late Leona Helmsley, who left an estimated $5.2 billion to a charitable trust. James Sorenson came in second with a bequest of $4.5 billion to the Sorenson Legacy Foundation. According to Slate, the 60 largest donations totaled $15.78 billion in 2008, which is quite a jump from last year's $7.79 billion. Click here to visit the Slate 60 website.

The Sunday Times Rich List 2009 - Wealthiest Persons in Britain
Every spring, the Sunday Times publishes its list of the wealthiest persons in Britain. Collectively the 1,000 multimillionaires in The Rich List 2009 are worth more than £258.27 billion, compared to £412.8 billion last year.  The online version of the Rich List 2009 can be found here the Rich List. Council for Aid to Education - 2009 Voluntary Support of Education Survey
CAE's Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) survey is the authoritative national source of information on private giving to higher education and private K-12, consistently capturing about 85 percent of the total voluntary support to colleges and universities in the United States. CAE has managed the survey as a public service for over 50 years. The most recent report, for the 2009 fiscal year, demonstrated that private contributions to America's higher education institutions declined by 11.9 percent to $27.85 billion.   To download the CAE press release with summary data and tables, click here

Ross-CASE Survey 2007-2008
This survey of gift revenue and fundraising costs has been carried out each year for the last six years to measure the philanthropic performance of HE institutions. It is the only source of information on this subject in the UK, enabling institutions to compare themselves with their peers. It also provides an estimate of the overall impact of philanthropy on the HE sector. Click here to download the full report.

NACUBO 2009 Endowment Study
This annual study by the National Association of College and University Business Officers serves as the premier source of higher education endowment information. Data gathered from American colleges and universities participating in the 2009 NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments® (NCSE) show that these institutions’ endowments returned an average of -18.7 percent (net of fees) for the 2009 fiscal year. Current and Completed Billion Dollar Campaigns in Higher Education – as of September 2009
Using publicly available data as well as information from the Chronicle of Higher Education, GG+A researchers compiled this ongoing list of current and completed billion dollar campaigns in Higher Education institutions. This list reflects the increasing frequency of the once rare billion dollar capital campaign.

Using data published by the NonProfit Times, GG+A researchers compiled these lists to show the largest not-for-profit Health and Cultural Organizations in the United States.

2008 Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Report on Giving
The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) has published the Annual Report on Giving for 25 years. Confirming the full impact of the global recession, the year's report shows that philanthropic giving for health care in the United States grew a tepid 2.9 percent — or about $241 million — to $8.6 billion in 2008, while similar donations in Canada fell by a dramatic 12.9 percent, to total $1.07 billion.
